The world of religions with their secrets small and large offers much to explore. Faith has many faces and leads to different ways of life. In the series The Fascination of Faith, we get to know the exciting worlds of the five major religions and meet people who live according to their systems of rules and values. We see grand temples and magnificent churches –houses of worship. We accompany people attending ceremonies, trying their utmost to lead their lives in obedience to the will of their Gods.
The world-famous Milan Cathedral is the centre of Catholic belief in Italy and was designed to accommodate over 14,000 visitors. The Derutiglianis, a Catholic family of eight, tell us about their belief and the strict rules of the Catholic Church. How easy is it to follow these rules? No sex before marriage? 19-year-old Erica explains what she thinks about these topics. We accompany 12-year-old David, a choirboy, on the way to his confirmation ceremony when he affirms his belief in God – a huge moment in the life of a Catholic. We also get a look behind the scenes and watch a private mass of the cathedral’s priests before their daily routine starts. Their fine robes are sewn by elderly nuns who put all their energy and care into their work, but if the number of young Italian girls entering the nunneries continues to fall, who will be there to take care of the beautiful garments in the future?
