Erich Fried united the most violent contradictions as an artist and a person: as a displaced Jewish emigrant from National Socialist Germany, he became a strict critic of Israeli politics. As a left-wing pacifist, he sought an exchange with the self-confessed neo-Nazi Michael K\u00fchnen. His love life only partially follows his sensitive poetry on the subject.
