FRIENDLY FIRE by Klaus Fried opens the 40th DokFest Munich

We’re delighted to announce: FRIENDLY FIRE, a film by Klaus Fried, directed by Julia Albrecht, will open the 40th DOK.fest Munich on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, in the main hall of the Deutsches Theater!

In the film, Klaus Fried traces the life of his famous father, the poet Erich Fried.

The film is part of the series Never Again is Now? – Films about Memory and Resistance.

Festival director Daniel Sponsel: “The film by Klaus Fried and Julia Albrecht is a timely gift, thematically highly topical, full of ambivalence, and a multifaceted family saga. Erich Fried, as an artist and human being, combined the most violent contradictions: As a displaced Jewish emigrant from Nazi Germany, he became a stern critic of Israeli politics. As a left-wing pacifist, he sought dialogue with the avowed neo-Nazi Michael Kühnen. His love life only partially reflects his sensitive poetry on the subject. As a father, he remains an enigma to his son Klaus: larger than life, yet profoundly human.”
