“The Ape, Man” tells the story of the orangutan girl Sandra, who in 2015 became the first non-human being to be granted legal people’s rights. Her touching fate, starting with Sandra’s birth in 1986 in the GDR, her “emigration” to the West, her sale to Buenos Aires, her liberation from captivity there and her current life with Bubbles, the Michael Jackson’s former chimpanzee, describes an adventurous journey that tells of the special relationship between humans and their closest relatives. The fact that the monkey holds up a mirror to man’s relationship with nature becomes the main theme of the story.
