Decolonize Me
a film by Jean Boué

In his grandfather’s library, 25-year-old David finds a coat of arms of his family, held by bearers on the right and left, with a spear and bast skirt, which are clearly of African origin. When he asks, he learns that the coat of arms only looked like this for a short time, around 1750, because it was fashionable at the time, in the colonial era, when sugar was the gold of the 18th century. David investigates, finds his family’s involvement in the slave trade and sets off to meet descendants of the victims to find out what we still have to do with it all today.
