Die Raketen, der Millionär und die Dessauer Bibeln
Germany | 2011 | Documentary | 45 min
They had been missing since the end of the war: the valuable Cranach bibles from Dessau. Until a tax investigator uncovered a clue in the early 90s while evaluating a West German entrepreneur. Thus began a detective-like search, covering many years and multiple countries, but with patience and perseverance, the tax investigator found more than just one of the most valuable copies of the Bible. He uncovered the fact that the revenue from the sale of this Bible had been used to cover up the illegal sale of military equipment. The film is a gripping detective puzzle. Its diverse facets – history, art history and police work – give it a particular appeal, and the viewer can practically relive the detective work for themselves. And the story has a happy ending!
